SECTION THREE - How to use links, surf and save websites

How to use links, surf and save websites

Move your mouse arrow over the page without clicking and notice that some words are a different colour and/or underlined. You might also notice buttons or icons as well as graphic images. When your mouse arrow passes over them, it changes from an arrow to a hand.

This means you have found a Link. If you click once on it, Explorer will take you to another page that contains more information about that particular item. Go ahead and try clicking on a link. If you want to return to the main page again, click Back.

Tip: If you right-click the Back button, you will see a drop-down menu of recently visited sites. You can go to any one of these by highlighting it and clicking once. This also works for the Forward button.

How to surf the Web

Choose any address. Type it into the Address Bar and press Enter. Find a Link and click on it. When you get to the new page, find another Link and click on it. Keep doing that until you’ve had enough. That’s surfing! All it means is jumping from page to page via the links.

Saving web sites in the Favourites Folder

When you find an Internet site that you want to visit again, here’s what you do…

  1. Open the page you want to save

  2. Click Favourites on your menu bar (the word not the folder)

  3. Click on Add to Favourites from the drop-down menu

  4. Click OK

If you want to see your list of favourites, click once on the Favourites button on your toolbar – it has a yellow folder. Your list will appear in alphabetical order on the left side of your page. If you want to go to one of the websites, move your mouse over it and click once when it turns into the pointing hand.
